Articulating Quality – Autumn 2022

For Creative Practitioners and Arts and Cultural Organisations in Yorkshire and the Humber.

How do I know if the work that I’m doing has purpose or impact? How can I ensure my work is of the highest quality?

The Articulating Quality programme offers you a practical opportunity to spend time identifying the elements that go towards making your work for children and young people both work of the highest quality as well as unique to you, and your company.

In the current climate, we need to think carefully about the impact we want our work to have, the dilemmas we are all facing, and how best we can respond to them. Using a variety of thinking tools, our reflective labs offer a useful framework for thinking through what might be ahead, providing the perfect opportunity to slow down, listen, and take time to consider our next steps before dreaming our next project into being. Working in a small group of peers, the sessions provide opportunities to learn from each other, drawing best practice from across sectors.

One of the reflection tools we use is the 7 Quality Principles, using them to consider approaches going forward. There will be an opportunity to talk about how we can really make our work ‘authentic’ and what that looks like, what ‘actively involving children and young people’ really means, considering what ‘providing a sense of personal progression’ might look like in the long term, as well as diving deep into creative evaluation and the current pressures many of us face to ‘measure the impact’ of what is happening.

The course details are as follows:

Course Description: Via Zoom, our structured support programme allows you to work alongside peers in the arts and culture sector to:

• Identify an area of your current practice that you’d like to actively explore through the lens of quality
• Create shared space and time for you to critique and share the ways in which you monitor, review and reflect on the impact of your work
• Identify and reflect upon the changes in practice that this brings about and consider how to embed new practice/thinking.
