Open to anyone working with children and young people

This event will explore what co-creation is and why we do it, and how putting youth voice at the heart of your work can support young people

In this second session focusing on co-creation, we will continue to explore how putting youth voice at the heart of your work can support young people as they emerge from the challenges of the pandemic. It will include further example of interactive activities you can use in your practice and explore how small ideas can be built and scaffolded into a creative whole.

Led by experienced music leader, performer and composer, Sarah Freestone, and Becky West, Regional Producer for the North at Orchestras Live, these sessions will explore co-creation and how putting youth voice at the heart of your work can support young people as they emerge from the challenges of the pandemic.

The sessions will dive into what co-creation really is and how starting small can be key to a successful creative process. Through the discussion, you’ll find out more about a range of projects and what taking part meant for those participants. Sarah will lead you through potential starting points, warm-ups and ways to generate material with a group. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss and test your ideas and you’ll take away a toolkit of suggestions to incorporate into your practice.

What this event will cover:

We know that bringing people together to share in making music is an effective way to support an individual’s wellbeing, increase their confidence and skills. The challenges experienced during the pandemic have highlighted the power of the collective creative experience that music can provide. Taking part in a creative process and performing together provides safe spaces to talk, learn, work with others and most importantly just enjoy being creative.

Attendees are also welcome to book the first, earlier session on co-creating with children and young people here.

Suitable for: Yorkshire and Humberside based: Teachers & School Staff; Arts and cultural organisations; Creative practitioners
