Reignite your love of teaching by exploring historical and cultural narratives. Join our free online CPD cohort to support a diverse and inclusive curriculum for teachers from all settings
Heritage Corner will introduce you to hidden historical and cultural narratives with this inspiring and engaging CPD. We will start with a global perspective before zooming in to national, regional and local narratives. The course will offer a supportive space to discuss race and identity and explore teaching approaches using a range of art forms to help deliver a more diverse curriculum. We will form a peer learning community, focusing on creative and practical ways to use hidden narratives in the classroom.
We’ll kick off with a socially-distanced Leeds Black History Walk on Sunday 1 November (for those who are able to travel). You’ll then gain new ideas, knowledge and renewed enthusiasm over the course of six online workshops alongside other teachers from across the region.
The first three sessions, before the Christmas break, will provide information, encourage a supportive forum for discussion and explore practical application of new knowledge. We’ll look at hidden African and Asian history and examine potentially challenging subject matter in a supportive and non-confrontational environment. This subject matter is used to explore creative expression and encourage us to challenge ourselves with new creative methods and content in the classroom
The final three sessions will be developed to match the needs and interests of the cohort. We will continue to examine art forms in the classroom and to reflect on successes, challenges and ways forward in our practice.
