Anti-racist teaching practice is essential for all educators, but implementing strategies can be particularly difficult during challenging times. These sessions will help participants to develop an understanding of issues connecting systemic racism to education and provide an opportunity to explore creative strategies and methods which can be used in developing anti-racist education.

Led by Kay Sidebottom, Senior Lecturer in Education and Lisa Stephenson, Course Leader MA in Creativity and Director of the Story Makers Company, at Leeds Beckett University, the sessions will explore issues of race and ethnicity in contemporary schooling. After some scene-setting around the context of systemic racism in society, the focus will be on participants’ specific dilemmas and issues raised by the pandemic. In both sessions we will aim to increase participants’ capacity to deal with difficult and sensitive issues via creative pedagogical practices.

Over the course of two online sessions, we’ll help participants:

Session 1: Exploring issues and approaches | 17 May, 3.45-5.45

Session 2: Putting ideas to work | 9 June, 3.45-5.45pm
