Workshop: So what can we do? A new way of doing drama

Getting our heads around the ‘new normal’ in schools might mean some things get left by the wayside or just seem too hard to do. But don’t write drama off! There are ways of doing this differently that can still add tremendous value to the way you teach the curriculum – all of which can be used way after Covid becomes a long-forgotten nightmare. Our limitations are only temporary obstacles to get around, and – with a little creativity and adaptability – drama can still thrive in schools.

In this interactive session, I will show you some simple activities that can be used in the classroom (whatever your school’s rules on social distancing) and online, with the aim of engaging children in learning across a range of curriculum areas, whilst improving their oral and written literacy skills. There will be the opportunity to discuss and share ideas, and to explore what works for you in your setting.

You will be given a resource pack with a list of socially distanced/non-contact/remote drama/ storytelling games and exercises which can improve vocabulary, communication, self-expression, confidence, motivation, and working as a group even when traditional group work isn’t allowed!
