Brightside Music CIC primarily offer interactive live music sessions in hospitals and healthcare settings where access to music as part of regular school life is usually limited. We bring instruments to bedsides, wards and waiting spaces and work with whoever we find, tailoring music-making to participants and offering them the autonomy to decide if and how they participate.
Our sessions are tailored to the young people we are working with, and the participants play an important role in leading the direction of music-making. We use music to help develop wellbeing and confidence in young people. Sessions are inclusive, participant-led and focus on the fact that everyone is a musician with something valid to contribute.
As qualified teachers (Aisling in primary and Becky in secondary music), we are keen to work with schools to actively involve young people in devising exciting and engaging musical provision to fit education settings.
We are currently trialling 1:1 online interactive music sessions via video link for some of our participants in hospital and this could be expanded to other settings.
We have recorded some videos and put them on a YouTube channel here. These were designed to be used by patients, families and staff members from the hospitals that we visit while we cannot do so in person. Our YouTube channel is constantly being added to.
