The Civic is a multi-disciplinary arts centre located in the heart of Barnsley. Our vision is ‘To be an extraordinary destination for the arts’ and to establish ourselves as the leading combined arts venue in the heart of South Yorkshire.
We offer a varied and interesting artistic programme showcasing the best in Theatre, Comedy, Music, Dance, Exhibitions and Family shows.
Our artistic programme provides lots of opportunities for children and young people to enjoy and participate in the arts. We regularly host schools visits to our exhibitions and encourage schools to book for performances in the Assembly Room offering supporting workshops with the visiting companies whenever we can. We actively encourage schools, home educators and other groups to use us as a resource for learning and creative development.
We are an Arts Award supporter, Arts Mark partner, the home to Barnsley Music Education Hub and a main partner in Barnsley’s Local Cultural Education Partnership.
