The Herd Theatre make original shows and experiences for children, young people and families. Our shows take place in playful immersive spaces and we invite our audiences to play. We regularly run drama, storytelling and visual arts projects with young people. We’re passionate about ensuring positive and inclusive experiences in our shows and projects. We are an affiliated company of Hull Truck and Associates of Hull Libraries and Back to Ours.
The Herd create innovative drama projects with and for schools and offer class trips to our unique shows for young audiences around the region.
In school projects
We deliver bespoke in school drama projects for a variety of educational settings. Typically these have been created in partnership with the school and have been delivered over 5 – 20 weeks. In all these projects we have actively involved children and young people in the creation of a new play, exhibition or film. We use theatre making and devising activities to play alongside young people, interrogate a theme together and closely listen, to create something authentically from young people. We exist to amplify the voices of young people and give a platform to their ideas and creations.
We have experience working in a range of educational settings including special schools, nurseries and Pupil Referral Units. We also have experience in fundraising in partnership with a school to make projects happen.
We are the Associate Theatre Company of Hull Libraries and have created projects with their Schools Library Service.
A lot of our projects have a public facing outcome – audiences that see shows or public exhibitions – helping embed the school and young people in their wider community.
If you have an idea for a project or are looking for an Artsmark Partner for an ambitious theatre-making project we’d love to hear from you.
