Filmmaker – Contract to Deliver a Project over 18 Months

Closing Date: June 1, 2018
Location:Leeds See Description p.a.

Are you an experienced and outstanding filmmaker? Could you work in partnership with professional teachers to improve the filmmaking and literacy skills of children aged 11-12?

IVE is seeking an experienced and outstanding filmmaker to work on an extended piece of action research, in partnership with Temple Learning Academy (Leeds). IVE has secured funding from SHINE to explore the impact of ongoing film education on standards of literacy on Year 7 pupils. Starting with some targeted work during transition week (week beginning 9/7/18) and continuing into the academic year 2018/19, the successful applicant will work in partnership with classroom teachers to use filmmaking to improve attainment outcomes for Year 7 pupils.

You may decide to cover areas such as: writing for film, acting for film, producing film and editing film. However, the planning will be left very much to you and your expertise, in partnership with the expertise of the classroom teachers.

A project manager is in place to oversee the entire programme and will provide advice and guidance in action research methods throughout the programme. Both you and the classroom teachers will be expected to gather appropriate data and evidence of impact, and adjust your plans on an ongoing basis to ensure maximum impact.

Timescale and budget

The programme will run from July 2018 through to December 2019.

The successful candidate must have good availability in the week beginning 9th July 2018 and definitely be free on Friday 13th July. The programme will then run fortnightly from September 2018 through to May 2019 for one full day or two part days (to be negotiated).

The programme will then continue to run from May 2019 through to Easter 2020 but your role will become that of a trainer. You will work with the 2 classroom teachers involved and train them to be able to lead the programme going forward. The amount of input here is somewhat flexible but is likely to be 4 or 5 sessions or days.

In order to apply for this post, please submit a CV and a covering letter that identifies both your experience working with young people in a formal education setting and any experience you have working with:

  1. Using filmmaking to increase attainment in literacy, and
  2. Action research (this is a desirable skill, not an essential one).

All candidates must have, or be willing to attain, a full, enhanced DBS check.

Salary

Part day fee will not exceed £180 and full day fee will not exceed £300 inclusive of travel.

The deadline for applications is Thursday 31st May. Please send all applications and enquiries to Rachel Green – rachel@weareive.org

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview at the IVE office in Leeds on Friday 8th June. Our apologies, but we will not be able to provide any feedback to non-shortlisted applicants.
